Environmental protection

The duties of the environmental protection authority include the supervision of air protection, water protection, soil and groundwater protection, waste management and noise abatement, as well as guidance, advice and information for residents in matters related to these.

The environmental protection service is also responsible for monitoring the state of the environment and for tasks related to nature conservation, and it issues statements to other authorities on matters within its remit.

The permit matters handled by the environmental protection authority include environmental permits, land extraction permits, permits under the Off-Road Traffic Act, notifications of short-term disturbing noise and decisions on connection to the water and sewerage network.
