School transport
Free school transport is provided for pupils in grades 0–2 of comprehensive school whose school journey is more than 3 km. For older pupils, transport is provided if their school journey exceeds 5 km.
On a discretionary basis, free transport may be granted if the school journey is too strenuous or dangerous taking into account the pupil’s age and health. In such cases, transport must be applied for and the application must be accompanied by supporting expert statements. The KOULULIITU assessment method developed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Finnish Road Administration and the Association of Finnish Municipalities is used as the basis for assessing the safety of the school journey.
The Municipality of Joroinen follows the school transport principles below. The director of education decides on discretionary transport, which may be granted for one school year at a time.
