Basic education

In Joroinen, basic education is provided at the Joroinen unified comprehensive school located in the church village and at the Kuvansi school.

The task of basic education is to provide high-quality and versatile general education, to bring up pupils towards responsible cooperation and good interaction skills, and to provide good opportunities for further study. Basic education takes different learners into account.

Basic education in Joroinen is carried out taking pupils’ individual learning needs into account. The municipality has a well-functioning network of local schools with sufficient numbers of pupils. The principle in arranging special support for pupils is, where possible, integration into the local school. In the Municipality of Joroinen, pre-primary education within extended compulsory education is purchased from the day care centre and, as needed, from other municipalities, joint municipal authorities and the state.

Enrolling in school

Every child of compulsory school age living in Joroinen has the right to participate in the basic education arranged by the municipality. The pupil is assigned a local school, which is determined according to your family’s address.

School enrolment for future first-graders

School enrolment (for the 1st grade of basic education) takes place annually in February–March. In 2026, the school enrolment period is 16 Mar–25 Mar 2026.

Pupils moving to the Municipality of Joroinen or changing schools within the municipality

Your child’s local school is determined according to your new address. In connection with enrolment in comprehensive school, a guardian may also apply for a school place at a school other than the local school (a secondary school place). If a pupil, at the guardian’s request, attends a school other than the local school assigned to them, the guardian is responsible for the costs arising from school transport or escorting, as well as for arranging the school transport.

Please fill in the enrolment form for pupils moving to Joroinen and contact the municipality’s education services. If the pupil has had pupil-specific support measures at their former school, please mention this in the additional information of the enrolment form.

Afternoon activities

The Municipality of Joroinen arranges afternoon activities in connection with the Kuvansi and Joroinen unified comprehensive schools. Pupils in grades 1–2 and pupils in grades 3–6 receiving special support may participate in the activities.

The purpose of the activities is to offer the child, after the school day, a safe environment supportive of the child’s growth, where they can spend their leisure time under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
