Public transport and PALI

Good transport connections and functional public transport are an important part of the services provided to residents.

The public transport services in Joroinen municipality include bus services operating within the municipality and the surrounding area, as well as demand-responsive transport (PALI). Road safety work in the municipality is fundamental work that takes into account residents of all ages and different road user groups.

Bus services

Buses operate in Joroinen municipality on the following routes:

Matkahuolto Routes and Tickets app

The Matkahuolto Routes and Tickets app allows you to purchase and pay for tickets for Varkaus city transport and Varkaus–Joroinen regional transport. The app enables passengers to search for route options from address to address and provides scheduled, map-based guidance, while also allowing them to purchase tickets for their upcoming journey.

The mobile ticket is automatically activated according to the travel plan, or it can be activated earlier if desired. An activated mobile ticket is valid for 60 minutes. Tickets purchased through the app are displayed on the Active tab in the app, from where they can be shown to the driver and inspected if necessary.

The free Matkahuolto Routes and Tickets app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play store and easily activated with an email address.

Kaitainen and Kerisalo bus services 12 August 2026–5 June 2027

Kuljetus H. Hakala Oy operates the Kaitainen – Joroinen route and Tilausliikenne Linjakas Oy operates the Kerisalo – Joroinen routes. The routes operate on school days from 12 August 2026. Timetables and ticket prices.

Bus travel cards are available for purchase at Joroinen library. The travel cards allow travel on the Kaitainen – Joroinen – Kaitainen and Kerisalo – Joroinen – Kerisalo bus routes. The travel card costs €30 and is valid for 1 month from the time of purchase.

Pensioners’ free travel between 10:00 and 14:00 also applies to routes to Kaitainen and Kerisalo. Bus cards can be obtained from the library by showing a pensioner’s card issued by Kela.

Demand-responsive transport PALI

PALI transport is demand-responsive service transport that particularly takes into account the needs of older passengers and people with mobility impairments. Anyone can book a PALI trip. Demand-responsive transport is a hybrid between traditional bus services and taxi services and is part of public transport available to everyone.

Bookings must be made the previous day between 08:00 and 15:30. Monday transport must be booked the previous week.

The service bus operates Monday to Friday. The service bus picks up from the yard if necessary and assists customers, so routes and timetables may change. Part of the day is operated based on requests. It is then possible to visit Kirkonkylä and nearby areas (e.g. Kerisalo, Kerisalonsaari, Joroisniemi, Tiemassaari or Varkaus). The transport fare is the same as a single bus ticket.
