Streets and public areas
Technical services are responsible for the maintenance of the municipality’s streets, parks and public areas, as well as the maintenance of public swimming beaches.
The Municipality is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of streets, parks and public areas within the town plan area. Developed parks in Joroinen cover approximately 3 hectares. The maintenance of these and other public areas covers a total area of 10 hectares. The municipality maintains approximately 40 km of streets and approximately 4 km of pedestrian and cycling routes.

You can give feedback on the maintenance of municipal streets and the road network to the municipality. The maintenance of private roads is the responsibility of the road’s road association.
Rug washing sites
Rug washing sites are closed during winter. Rug washing sites are generally open from the end of May to the end of August.

Both rug washing sites are equipped with one large rug washing basin, two small rug washing basins and a mangle. The wash water, pumped from the lake, is available from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm; wastewater is directed to the municipal sewer system.
Harbours and boat berths
Joroinen municipality is located in a great spot for boaters and anglers on the shore of northern Lake Saimaa. In addition, extensive and fish-rich waterways can be found in the Maavesi–Sysmä–Paro waterway area. These waterway areas have several harbours and boat berths maintained by the municipality or other operators.

Boat berth rules and rental terms
You can find the rental terms here (pdf)
- No devices may be installed on boat jetties, structures or in the boat harbour without the permission of the Technical Committee, and no items may be stored on the jetties. Unauthorised structures will be removed from the jetty berths.
- The holder of a boat berth is responsible for removing waste and for the general cleanliness of the berth.
- The boat must be moored so that the holder of the adjacent berth can access their spot without obstruction, and so that the boat does not bump into the neighbouring boat when moving.
- Joroinen municipality is not liable for any damage to boats occurring in the boat harbour.
Booking a boat berth
Boat berth bookings are made through the office secretary. Boat berth bookings valid until further notice remain valid unless cancelled annually by 15 April. The boat berth must be terminated in writing.
Boat berths are invoiced at the end of May. New boat berth bookings can be made throughout the year.
Fees are valid for the calendar year (Tekla 27 August 2026 § 66).

Accessibility
Accessibility is about taking the diversity of people into account in the planning, implementation and maintenance of the built environment.
An accessibility walk was carried out in Joroinen municipality in June 2021 as part of Eastern Finland’s traffic safety cooperation work. The walk focused on examining routes where accessibility problems had been identified, and the entrances of public and private services were reviewed from an accessibility perspective.
