Streets and public areas

The technical services are responsible for the maintenance of the municipality’s streets, parks and public areas, as well as for the upkeep of public swimming beaches.

In the detailed plan area, the municipality takes care of the maintenance and cleaning of streets, parks and public areas. There are approximately 3 hectares of built parks in Joroinen. Their upkeep, together with that of other public areas, covers a combined area of 10 hectares. The municipality maintains approximately 40 km of streets and approximately 4 km of pedestrian and cycle paths.

You can give feedback on the maintenance of municipal streets and roads to the municipality. The maintenance of private roads is the responsibility of the road’s road maintenance association.

Rug-washing places

The rug-washing places are closed in winter. The rug-washing places are generally open from the end of May to the latter part of August.

Rug-washing places maintained by the municipality of Joroinen:

  • Kuvansi: Kuvansintie (the junction of Kuvansintie and Kirvesniementie), see on map

Both rug-washing places are equipped with one large-rug washing basin, two small-rug washing basins and a mangle. Washing water pumped from the lake is available from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm, and the waste water is directed into the municipal sewer.

Harbours and boat berths

The municipality of Joroinen is located in an excellent place for boaters and anglers, on the shore of northern Saimaa. In addition, extensive and fish-rich waters can be found in the Maavesi–Sysmä–Paro water system. These water systems are home to several harbours and boat berths maintained by the municipality or other operators.

Rules of order for boat berths

  1. No equipment may be built on the boat jetties, structures or in the marina without the permission of the technical committee, and no goods may be stored on the jetties. Unauthorised structures will be removed from the jetty berths.
  2. The holder of the boat berth takes care of removing waste and of the general tidiness of the berth.
  3. The boat must be moored in place so that the holder of the adjacent berth can reach their place without obstruction, and so that the boat does not bump into the adjacent boat as it moves.
  4. The municipality of Joroinen is not liable for damage occurring to boats in the marina.

Reserving a boat berth

Boat berth reservations are made through the office secretary. Boat berth reservations valid until further notice remain in force unless they are cancelled annually by 15 March. Boat berths are invoiced at the end of March. New boat berth reservations can be made throughout the year.

The fees are valid for the calendar year (Technical Committee 26 September 2024, Section 66).

Accessibility

Accessibility is about taking the diversity of people into account in the planning, implementation and maintenance of the built environment.

In the municipality of Joroinen, an accessibility walk was carried out in June 2021 as part of the Eastern Finland traffic safety operator work. The walk focused on getting to know routes where accessibility problems had been identified, and the entrances of public and private services were examined from the perspective of accessibility.
